Wageningen University & Research network BlackHole Alert

Gotcha! You click on a link but the sender is not as reliable as you think. It’s the perfect cover for a password thief. And with your data and your identity, they will have no trouble hacking into your facebook, linked-in or email.

What do I need to do now?

Please note this BlackHole Alert service is ONLY functional while connected to the WUR network, NOT at your home or any other location. Please do not try to access the link outside the WUR network because it can cause serious damage to your PC and/or account.

How can I prevent seeing this BlackHole page again?

1. When in doubt, never click on links but contact the Servicedesk IT.

2. Never reply to requests to send your login name and password.

3. Check to see if the information and assertions in the e-mail are correct.

4. Look at links in an email by 'floating' over the link with the cursor and not by clicking it open. If using a smart phone, hold your finger a bit longer on the link, and the URL will pop up for verification.

5. Check the name of the site in the browser bar and check to see if it is preceded by 'https' with a closed green lock.

6. Send a phishing email as an attachment to servicedesk.it@wur.nl and then delete the email from your mailbox via the 'Report Junk' button in Outlook. This button can also be used to report and delete spam emails. If you have accidently disclosed private information, immediately change the password in question and contact the Servicedesk IT as soon as possible.
